Welcome to Mikes-models model engineering website. Its sole aim is to record the work that I undertake and hopefully other novice engineers can learn from my mistakes, for there are many of them! None of the work I do on this site should be taken as a recommendation of how to do some task or other. I am a new (ish) engineer myself and am learning all the time. I also have a blog (funny term for a diary!) and if you have any comments to make either email me via the box on the left above. The blog can be viewed either via the links page or the address is www.mikes-models.com/blog its as simple as that. I am happy to show others work on these pages and if you have a project underway that may be of use to others then please let me know.

It never ceases to surprise me on how many visitors I have. Most are returning and in the 2 years since I set up the site just under 20,000 visitors have viewed just under 100,000 pages! Not to bad for a home model engineering site so thank you all. I have also made many friends though this website and look to making contact with more in 2010 our 3rd year.

Finally I decided to change each year the style of the web pages. If you come across other styles you will know that the work was not carried out this year (2010). Once again welcome. Mike

Stop Press: Sorted out the laptop now my Blog has gone wrong! I can't get into the WordPress site to edit!!!! Not much metal bashing this month but wood has seen the lathe being used and a new 'tool' purchased. I may even be thawing a little in regards to wood! SHock horror:)

My 8 month old Granddaughter Freya is standing up for herself! So a baby walker seems to fit the bill. At least I get to use the lathe to turn the 4 wheels!

I am also going to make some bushes for the wheel and the axles of course, so all is not lost....

Initial thoughs were to profile the wheels so I made a template to ensure they were all alike......

Oh, yes! I get to play with my lathe again although I do cringe with all the shavings and sawdust. Hoover on the go a lot!

Three of the wheels made so far. I have ordered some 1" wide rubber to make tyres for them which should be much safer. I will also be making some form of restrictor so it doesn't run away from her........The metal aspects will be covered here soon.
